Because I'm Already In A Bad Mood...
I wanted to share this eBay auction with y'all: Annoying AuctionIT'S SPRING CLEANING AT OUR HOUSECHECK OUT ALL OF OUR GREAT DEALS!This auction includes used items from previous hermit crab pets my daughter had. Now that she's over that phase, we're moving on and passing on the savings to you! Here's what's included:1. Small pink cage with handle. (has some scratches but no holes) Perfect size for 2 crabs!2. Hermit Crab Informational book-perfect for the new crab owner3. One long piece of driftwood/log- this is perfect for crabs since they love to climb!4. Water pillows- a moisture source for crabs. Add these in addition to fresh water and it gives the crabs an extra water source.5. 9 (varied styles) of seashells including one to be used as a water dish. Using shells for the water offers the crab valuable calcium in it's diet.6. Coconut mat- this can be used to line the cage. It can be cut to fit. The crabs like to crawl on it and it helps to retain moisture and humidity in the cage. You know what really irks me? The sentence "Now that she's over that phase...". Hmmm. What phase? Hermit crabs are a phase? Somebody forgot to tell me that!OK. I feel better now.

That is annoying. Some people should not be allowed to keep pets. I have a friend who works at an aquarium shop. He says he can't tell me the number of times parents have come in with their kids to buy them a pet and then proceed to ask, "These things won't live too long, will they?" I personally wouldn't sell to someone who'd ask something like that.

Thats one reason prices shouldn't be displayed with the pets for sale that way store people can evaluate the coustomer and if they find out that they wouldn't be a good canadate they can overprice the pet to avoid having to send a pet with a family that will not take care of it. Thats one reasion I put on my for sale page when selling goats that the prices are liable to change without notice. Which means if it shows one price and I give a higher price on a goat they can't say any different as they know the price tag on the site is not the final price and is opt to change.

There seems to be so many of these bad "hermit crab kits" on eBay lately. For some reason, this one just caught my eye. There's just so much misleading information on it. It's no wonder they no longer are in their "hermit crab phase".

Nicole I completely understand your frustration and anger so please don't read my response to her the wrong way. My mom taught me you catch more bees with honey. I had to rewrite this six times till I stopped biting her head off. heheh"I mean no disrespect but shops and kiosks know nothing about true crab care and frequently what they pass on is dreadfully wrong. It's likely that your daughter's crabs experienced a very painful and lonely death from improper care which would explain why she outgrew the phase. (I'm an adult and have three tanks of my own.) They need warmth and humidity, sand to dig, tunnel and molt in, room to roam and things to explore. Without humidity their modified gills dry out and they suffocate. Even one in a kritter keeper is inhumane because they travel in groups of up to 100 and have been found in the tops of trees. They need fresh and salt water, protein like they get from the ocean, fruits and veggies....Auctioning this as a crab cage will only ensure that other crabs suffer needlessly in it. It would be a more compassionate act to advertise it as a betta tank and auction the remaining items separately."I wanted her to read it completely and if I came off bashing right from the first word she'd never make the first sentence. I completely rewrote it once I realized she has no offers yet and that made a difference in how I should approach her. With no offers, she might be willing to take my advice. If she had offers she'd likely respond something unprintable!Take care Nicole. Hope your day gets better.((crabby hugs))

OMG you mean to tell me that there's a "phase" coming up on me that I didn't know about I was expecting something like this to happen. I have spent my life's saving on this "phase", I should ask that e-bayer what "phase" they are in to know so I know what to expect next... GRRRRRrrrrr any body who considers any living creature as a "phase" is just sick in my book.... Sandra

At least she's not selling the crabs. I hate it when people think it's OK just to get rid off their pets because they are over that phase. On another note--I am over the parenting phase...any takers?JK! I love my lil girl and would never give her away---for more than an hour or so anyway.

Great job Abby with the letter! I've had some flippant replies from eBay crab sellers so I didn't even think about writing to her. Did you hear from her yet? I bet she's wondering about all the hits on her *cough* "informative" auction.

"Small pink cage with handle.Perfect size for two crabs"....Aw, I didn't have to spend that extra $25 on a glass tank and lid?!I could've used that to buy my next phase!I hope that seller sells the things seperately instead of making people believe that sorta set up is okay for hermies...I hope that letter gets some sort of response Crabby Abby!

Me... Naw. I'm not a housewife... According to the doctor though I'm signifiacantly OBESE. What do doctors know huh? Stupid idiots with their fancy college degrees and stuff. Thin tall beautiful? That sounds great, but too much work. Nicole I completely agree with you. What an idiot. Phase. Hey maybe we should all go to the fancy doctors and see if we have a phase... Naw Suz I agree with you too, I'd almost put money on it that over half of the population with pets shouldn't have them. Alot of pets are neglected, malnourished, abused, etc. And I agree with you too Rachel, the pricing thing. Most people if they don't see a price they think it'll be too expensive, and if they're not serious about wanting a new pet, they will fail to ask. And the upping price on people who don't seem right... Absolutely brilliant. I've noticed all the bad crab kits too, it's terrible, but at least most of them don't claim to be perfect for two crabs. What is that a 6*8 cage maybe? That's enough room for one itty bitty cocohut, one water dish, put the food on the substrate, and the crabs could just sit on top of this stuff because they won't have any room to move. Good grief. And what kind of hermit crabs is going to use a conus shell? Anyones crab here ever use a conus shell? Nope? Didn't think so. Crabby Abby your letter was awesome. If I was the uneducated idiot selling this auction I would have read the whole letter, and not gotten upset. Good grief... What is this world coming to? Phase *Hmph*

Boy have I got an entertaining follow-up to what you guys thought was a nice note. You read my email to the seller. Now read their reply, followed by my response:Psycho's:"We will say this one time and one time only: DO NOT EMAIL US AGAIN WITH THIS OUTLANDISH REQUEST. We have taken the liberty to report you to Ebay for harassment and auction interference. You have absolutely no right to ask this of us. FYI- we took great care of the 3 hermit crabs we had and contrary to what you believe- not a single crab died under our care. We made it a point to research the best care options, feeding requirements, etc. for the crabs. (duh!) You should basically mind your own business and desist this harassment immediately. If you don't like our auction, STOP VIEWING IT! We have the right to sell this item just as it is sold in the commercial retail arena- as a CRAB CAGE! Why don't you take your animal activist crusade to retailers? Have you nothing better to do other than lurk on Ebay looking for people to harass? You should be ashamed of yourself. There are many more important causes in this world that you could add to your demented crusade. Consider world hunger, child ****ography, slavery (YES, IT STILL EXISTS!), child starvation in the US, AIDS prevention, AIDS medication for poor victims in AFRICA? Whatever you do- please leave us alone. You have been warned. Additionally- should you really want our listing to be changed- you may add funds to our Paypal account! Otherwise, we suggest you back off and find another cause to hyperventilate over. Again, you have been warned. Good day!"Mine:"There was absolutely no need for you to respond as you did. As a crab owner I often look for crab related items which is how I came across your auction. I told you honestly why I was writing and it's as simple as that. And as you spoke your piece I will speak mine. If you'd truly researched you wouldn't have kept a crab in there so you're not fooling anyone. And thank you but I am very much a political, animal and world issue activist. And YOU??Boy if anyone needs an anger management class it's you."

Nice work Abby, that was totally out of line by her! To say that to YOU is a crime in itself, I was so totally enraged by that. Where in your letter were you "hyperventilating", and harassing them? That didn't make one but of sense, and I'm glad you mentioned, "If you'd truly researched you wouldn't have kept a crab in there so you're not fooling anyone." Exactly my thoughts as I was reading her response. What is wrong with people?

I can't believe they referred to you as psycho! The ranting in her letter seems indicative of psychosis! Just goes to show ya, there are a lot of nuts out there. Even if they didn't appreciate ur letter (which was very respectful), a reply like that is absolutely absurd!

I completely agree with you about anger management. What a (Fill in the blank)! How rude. You try to help these people and they get angry. I always find people who don't know how to identify their seashells and e-mail them their names and retail values and they're always graciuos, and guess what else, their auction always sells. Good grief, she might make more money selling it as a betta tank. Some people are just unhelpable(I'm sure there's a real word for that) Lost cause maybe? She belongs in a padded wall in a white jumpsuit.
