Is saran wrap safe for my crabs??

Post by mylilhermies » Tue Oct 06, 2015 8:18 pm

I have a 10 gallon tank with a mesh lid, so I wrapped most of the lid in Glad wrap. One of my crabs loves to climb upside down on the lid. But now it's partially covered in plastic wrap. What if he eats it or something? Safe? :crabblush:

It's safe to use, and a good way to hold in humidity :)

If they tear it up too badly, put it on the outside of the lid only. Mine used to shred it! Safe, but too messy. Press and Seal works really well, too. I have a roll that we only use for the critters. :)

Absolute best thing I have found is this clear plastic/rubber liner from the dollar store. Its in with the cabinet and drawer liners and is clear. Its thick, can cut it to size and easy to move with the weather. Best part is that it has no effect on the light! The crabs can still climb on the lid but wont ruin it since it can just sit on top. It can be secured with zip ties if you want because it is easy to punch a hole in.

I ended up just taping most of my lid (sticky side out) with packing tape. Hopefully that's safe? The plastic wrap annoyed me. lol

I've done that! It's hard to get the glue off though without stripping the paint if you change your mind.
