Eye malformed post-molt

Post by Lemonsqr » Sat Nov 07, 2015 6:57 pm

I have 2 crabs. One from a beach side store & the smaller one we got from a local pet store. The little guy went down to molt first. I was super happy he went down, once I got him home I realized he was missing a leg . He's back up now & his leg is back, but now one of his eyes is malformed. He's been super duper shy & extra hidey since the other crab came back up from molting. I just went to look for him & take a picture to post, but he's gone. I guess he went back down to molt & fix his eye? He was up for about 3 weeks. Is that like crazy soon? I was planning to remodel the tank tomorrow, but since he's down I guess I'll have to wait.

If he's really tiny then 3 weeks is about right. Eye issues with molts is common. Sometimes it'll even get worse before it gets better. It's really odd the way they handle regeneration of their eyes, and while generally it will eventually get back to normal, it can sometimes take a while before it looks right again.
