So it's been a while...

Post by moonbeam » Fri Nov 20, 2015 11:31 pm

It feels like it's been ages since I've checked in on HCA! I'm going to school to be a vet tech. The good news is that I spend most of my time learning about or spending time with animals. Sad part is that I rarely get to catch up here. So here goes about a year worth of catching up.
I can't even remember the last time I posted about new crabs but I've been busy adopting and filling my tank up. Since January I've adopted 9 crabs and set up a second tank. I think the last crabs I posted about were Speedy, Hercules, Rosie, and George. Everyone was healthy when I adopted them, except Hercules who was dug up to transfer them to me unfortunately. He was pink and soft when he came to me and dropped a leg on the ride over. Somehow he pulled through and has been striving ever since.

After that adoption was Jeff and Jerry. These guys are a hoot! Especially Jeff. And I love Jerry Cherry's coloring.

Lastly, let me introduce Reddington and Keen. These guys are kinda special to me. I got a bunch of free shells from this lady on Craigslist about a year and a half ago. A few months ago I answered another add on Craigslist about two crabs needing a home. Turns out it was the same lady who gave me the free shells! I was so surprised. She had them for almost 10 years before deciding to rehome them! So they're HUGE lol. ImageImage

And of course last but not least, my first rescue Wilson. Still pale as ever and all over the place.

The rest of the crew is doing well. Bob recently came up from his first moly with me. It only took him a year to get around to it. And Little Mama finally changed out of her murex after carrying it around for nearly a year! I swear she's my little model crab. Never gets shy, even with a camera in her face. ImageImageImageImage

Dinner tonight. They had a special treat, squid and honey along with some crab mixes. It smelled so good it was like ringing the dinner bell in the big and small tanks. ImageImageImage
Anyone else see Rosie in the background patiently waiting her turn? ImageImage
Oh and my best friend moved to Costa Rica! She sent me a picture of the wild hermit crabs that crawl all over the beaches there! Image

Your tanks look wonderful from the pictures! Could we see some pictures of the tanks themselves? I love seeing how others set up their tanks!

Thanks guys! It's good to hear from you guys! I'm glad I got a chance to catch up a bit. I've missed the forum! Aussie you have NO idea the paradise she's living in. She's living in a beachfront house and wild horses commonly show up in her FRONT YARD. The wildlife is breathtaking. The wild iguanas, the monkeys, the crazy amount of beautiful birds. It's enough to make you wanna throw caution to the wind and go on an adventure!... For a lifetime lol. Judy, I'll try and get some pictures of the tanks once I get the three year old to bed. Hopefully I'll get them posted tonight!

I realize the lighting isn't he best but that's a fish bowl miss pit under the shelf with a crab hiding out in front.

I gotta get me some cholla wood and hemp nets! I also looked at some similar baskets at the dollar store...long thin ones, but I thought they might be too thin for my crabs. Definitely not; I always buy things that are way too big for my tank. Maybe I'll pick up a couple now!

I got the baskets with an adoption. The longer rectangle baskets are great for smaller crabs. They seem to feel secure in them. My big crabs sleep in the square basket every day. It's pretty adorable lol.

Lol...I recognize those long rectangular baskets! I rehomed Jeff and Jerry with you, and am SO grateful to you for taking them! They look terrific, and I know they're happier in a tankful of crabby friends. (And dining on squid and honey, no less.) Best of luck with your studies. You'll be a great vet tech!

Thank you!! Both Jeff and Jerry seem to have settled in quite well! Oh and a few days ago Jeff was dancing on the tank wall. I got a really good look and it turns out he is a she!!
