Heh, I love you guys. It's so nice to be around animal people that do the same things!! I'm pretty sure my Christmas money is long-gone now after my purchases the last couple days. I do still have a giftcard for a department store that only sells clothing, so I guess that will actually be spent on me.

I know they still have such a long way to go, but I'm so happy about the updates! I hope the calcium arrives soon and I'm glad you got pain meds for these poor little ones. They're going to have a great cheering squad on here!

Lost Skinny. I am honestly okay. I was rather expecting it given the state he was in. I was more surprised he stayed alive this long. I just feel bad that I didn't see the ad sooner - she had been trying to rehome them for a while but on the regular BST page where pets aren't supposed to be listed. I think a few weeks would have made a major difference.

Sorry for your loss, ( you did what you could, he was to far gone ) but for the other to I thought. "Oh this is so great! " I'm so happy the vet wants to give them a chance and gave them something for there pain. It's wonderful to see they are eating and passing food. The pics are heart breaking in the first post but to know they are fighting and they have a wonderful new owner willing to give them the time and special attention they deserve makes me so happy! It's good to know they are hungry and trying to take in as much as possible. I'm breeding mealworms and crickets at home, and have just gotten some super worms to beetle for me hoping to breed them as well. I have a little surplus of mealworms so if I head your way I can bring some along, more the. Willing to "donate" to wodes rescue. Haha, you should just make a rescue and start a page for it with a donation option, I know I would help support your cause! Maybe that way you can cover some food and vet cost. I adore your efforts!

I really was expecting it to happen. After so many years of doing rescues, I get this sensation in my gut. I can't consciously explain what it is that makes me feel that way, but maybe it's because I don't want to remember everything I've seen. It's so bad that I can look at a cat and tell you if it's going to die in a week. It freaks people out, even medical staff. I figure it's my coping mechanism to keep from getting too attached. Apparently it works with reptiles, too.

They are going to be on powdered food for a long time. I've been discussing with someone who does rescue and rehab for a living in Canada, and she's been giving me great information about how they do things there. Mainly, their gut bacteria is going to be so out of whack from being starved that digesting insects is going to be too hard for them for a long time. A prescription/premade food is better for them right now. We got the Carvinore Care in today and they took their first meal well. They probably won't be able to eat or catch real food until the breaks in their jaws heal and the calcium builds up to where they won't refracture it by chewing or lunging. I really don't know how long that will take. I figure at least two months, and probably more like 4 or 6 going by other accounts. And then there's the fun part of getting them to recognize food again. It might be an uphill battle for a long time.

I need to get probiotics for them to help with digestion, and the oral calcium should be here tomorrow with luck. UVB is a day late. We have the pain meds and injectable calcium but our vet thinks too highly of us and sent us home with the supplies to figure out dosages and dilutions. We're still making sure our numbers are right before doing anything. Also need to get a fecal done once they are a bit more settled to make sure they don't have parasites. I'll be glad for that, because then I can move the out of the front bedroom and into the critter room which is a cat-free fortress.

I've got a decent mealworm colony here considering I don't really have anything that eats them (developing allergies to it though, like with the roaches ) and I started a superworm colony over two months ago but still am not seeing any little worms yet. Killed all of my adult breeding beetles off by feeding them orange. I did not know they shouldn't have citrus! I also have a dozen jars of waxworms going and am going to set up 6 more - have moths now, waiting on eggs. Still, everything wants crickets. >< I'm getting them in bulk now through the local pet shop which is saving a ton over having to buy them a 100 at a time.

Wasn't really expecting anyone to ever want to donate, but if someone is interested I did put up a link through my website at http://wodesorel.com/ I haven't been mentioning the site yet since it's still only partly done. I want to eventually get all my hermit pics and cat pics and rescue pics and everything else on it. It's needed. I've got stuff uploaded across the internet. Would have been so much easier had I been putting it in one place all along. (And not having access cut off halfway through the month from too many views like Photobucket has in the past.)

Hellion is having grand mal seizures. Waiting for the vets to open to put him down. He might go before then.

Gah. He was doing so freaking well! I don't know what happened. He was the only one of the bunch I wasn't worried about!



There's still one left to focus on. He surprised me by shedding this morning. Had to soak him down and get him clean in the middle of everything else. And he still had to eat.








Post shed. It didn't take long to tug off everything once he had soaked.


We're doing meals on my lap. Easier to control him, and he likes having fabric surrounding him so he feels secure.


He lets me know when he's full!

I'm sorry The remaining guy looks pretty perky. Is he the one with the possible broken/dislocated jaw?

It's The Scoliosis Kid that is the survivor - the one with possible back fractures. That's why I'm hesitant about his recovery still. He can't use his front arms at the shoulders, so his chest is always on the ground right now. He can however lift his rear with his back legs when walking, which he couldn't do when he got home! The question is if it's paralysis, muscle weakness, or broken bones keeping him from using his his body properly. He sits like a crocodile with his head straight up at almost a 90 degree angle to his back, and sort of slithers like a snake to move. But he can move fast.

Hellion was the one with the jaw problems - and if he'd been having seizures like the one I witnessed that would explain why his head was so badly damaged. It probably wasn't something new, it just wasn't happening often enough to where we saw it.

I hope your last little fella continues to improve. He is so freeking cute! It'll break your heart, doing rescue work. If one is not careful it can even make someone feel less positive about people in general by seeing what seemingly normal, everyday people can do to dependent animals with malice or ignorance. But those success stories can really make up for it. I will send some healing vibes the little fella's way.
