I LOVE it! I've been thinking my last upgrade maybe something like this.
6 PPs, 4 Straws, 3 Es * 1 Teeny, 6 Smalls, 4 Mediums, 1 large and 1 Jumbo in a 70 gallon
1 Boxer puppy, 1 Yorchie mutt, 1 cat, 1 ball python, 1 boa

The deepest part is about 8 inch and near the pools it is about 6 I think.
I can't go deeper cause I don't want them to be too close to the heat lamp fixtures.
Can't increase the ceiling height too as it is already too tall for a coffee table!

If you put an Ultratherm on it and get rid of the lamps you can deepen the substrate, which is super important.

Re: Panthera's 115G tank/coffee table
^^^ that would be a good idea! Depending on the size of your crabs and their growth rate you will probably need to add more sub sooner rather than later!
What types of crabs are you getting? Make sure you post pics

Is 8 inches of sub not enough? I'm in Australia so I'm limited to variabilis

Depends on the size of the crabs. Very large crabs will need more.Panthera wrote:Is 8 inches of sub not enough? I'm in Australia so I'm limited to variabilis

Someone suggested that the heat lamps may be too close to the substrate and it will dry it out. Currently I am using the red infrared type.
I am thinking to change it to the ceramic heat emitters.
What do you guys think?

I've used heat lamps and they will dry the surface of the substrate directly under the lamp faster. I think the ceramic heat emitter would do the same, as does a UTH positioned low over the substrate line. It's just something you have to keep an eye on, misting the substrate as needed.

Don't worry, aussies don't grow that big compared to other sized crabs, the largest I heard of and seen are crabs that's around the size of a tennis ball. But I imagine by them, you might of already upgraded your coffee table into a larger one. (6-8 inches should be fine)
