New project - 3 leopard geckos with severe MBD...
Re: New project - 3 leopard geckos with severe MBD...
Makes perfect sense. It would probably take far too long to acclimate him to perching on a board, much less pushing one around.

I hope he's one of those hard luck cases that just seems to defy the odds and get over each new hurdle as it comes. He's my favorite reason to check in here right now.

Re: New project - 3 leopard geckos with severe MBD...
He's on crickets entirely now! A dozen small-medium a day, and he'd be eating more if I let him. I'm breaking them up into three meals so he can digest properly. I also have insulin syringes from the vet, so I can turn the crickets into teeny medicine bombs. No more having to lift him out of the tank! I can stick one cricket with meloxicam and do three more with his daily amount of calcium.
I took a video the other night of what our feedings are like. If I put them down he doesn't find them. He started equating my hands and face with food because of the syringe feeding, so he'll track me even if I move across the room and he won't pay attention to what's sitting in front of him! This one took a bit longer, when I fed him last he got all four on the first try - some feedings go easier than others. https://youtu.be/Vm4gJL2KwMA
But he's still doing good and gaining weight.

So, so sweet! Fascinating the way he focuses 100% on you, wholly ignoring the tasty cricket that's dropped from the tongs right under his cute nose. He looks like a whole different Leo since you took him in, so much stronger and alert. Great job!wodesorel wrote: I took a video the other night of what our feedings are like. Ahhhhh, I just linked this video at friends in two different Skype chats. I'm so excited to see how well he's doing!! And I squealed a bit over his face just looking up at you after he dropped the cricket. "WHERE FOOD? GIMME FOOD!" What a cute little baby!

I hope he is continuing to do well...shameless plug for more pictures and an update.

Re: New project - 3 leopard geckos with severe MBD...
I've been stuck in bed this week with wildly fluctuating blood pressure. It's been overwhelming just doing the critter rounds, I've been worried about the chameleon (we think she's going to lay eggs any day now) and I keep forgetting to grab the camera when I'm in with the Kid. He is doing amazing, gaining weight, and is shedding again at the moment. I'll have a better update with pictures soon!

Is it normal to shed so much?

Re: New project - 3 leopard geckos with severe MBD...
It's because he's gaining so much weight, since their scales can only grow larger from molting. As healthy adults they shed like once a month to every 6 weeks. Belle and Butler molted every two weeks as they were recovering, and are now up to around a month between. I expect the Kid to be every 2 to 3 weeks for a while!
This shed went a lot easier - I soaked his paper towels down and left wet wads of them around the tank for 24 hours, as soon as I saw him turn white. It practically melted off. Not a single stuck bit!
