White Film on Shells?

Post by HerperWChickens » Mon Feb 01, 2016 8:48 am

Hello, I know I've posted like one million questions but, I have a question on my shells. all of my tapestry turbos have a white film covering most of the shell, and it doesn't wash off. I washed them for 10 minutes trying go rub off this ugly white layer!
Have any ideas what it is?
Happy February!

Could be hard water. I took a drop of vegetable oil and rubbed it on all of mine and they don't look that way anymore. Just wipe it off when done because you want what it does but don't want to leave it on the shells.

The colored layer will start to wear off over time - either through physical means, or through chemicals means. (Even boiling is enough to start the process.) Oil and water will bring the color back to the surface temporarily, but there's no way to permanently make them shiny again.

*nods* Boiling is the culprit in my dull shells.

I trashed an entire shell shop of brand new turbos once - including jumbo Jades - by putting them on a bed of moss. I thought it would look pretty. Two weeks later the shells looked like they were years old hand me downs...
