Am I doing the right thing with my molting crab?

Post by Winter1 » Wed Feb 03, 2016 11:28 pm

So I woke up in the morning and I see a sight that almost made me cry. Until I found out that my crab was probably ok. One of a medium crabs, Thing1, had my other, small crab, Pebble, in his grasp (pebble was a deep as she could be in her shell) then I saw the exoskeleton beside them. I was so scared that pebble was hurt because she literally just shed her exoskeleton ( which I had no idea about until this incident) So I took Pebble and her exoskeleton and scence I didn't have a isolation tank, in a glass cup with about 3 inches of Eco earth then cut a plastic cup so it was a tiny hide and placed it over the crab and exo. Later that afternoon I set up a perfect isolation tank and put pebble and the exoskeleton in there with the cup hide over her. Did I do the right thing?

Yes, ISOing her was the right thing. Keep conditions right. At this point, the only other thing she needs is her exo and a hide to feel secure. Try not to disturb her. I hope she pulls through her surface molt and attack. Please keep us updated. :)

You may want to double check your crabitat conditions to see if there's something off that lead to her surface molting.

Yeah the isolation tank is always at 75 degrees and at 80% humidity. I used a plastic cup with a hole as a hide. For some reason she had started molting in a large shell in a decoration I made.

Leave her isolated until she finishes eating her exo and is out and about like normal.

Ok because last night she moved her hide and knocked it over and has dug under the water dish
