Glass Canopy Backstrip-HELP!

Post by marandashermies » Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:55 pm

Can some one please give me some tips on how to connect the plastic strip onto the glass lid? Every time I get one side in, the other side pops off. Clearly I am missing a step here! If you are not sure what I mean by backstrip, its the plastic piece that is on the back side of the aquarium lid. It can be cut to fit bubbler lines through. It looks like this.

Help appreciated!

No, not missing a step. They are royal pains when new. You should be able to jam it on - carefully, since it is glass. It took me a while with the one I bought new for a 10 gallon a few years ago. However, you want it to be tight. I have one on a 20 gallon I got used, and I had to tape the whole thing together to make it stay on!

OK, thank you! I was worried I was going to break the glass if I jammed it further. Why do they have to make it so complicated! grrrr!

I gave up trying to get that strip onto the rear glass and ended up attaching it with clear packing tape. It's been holding like a charm for the past 15 months.

So my fiance just put mine together a week ago......and I asked him how he did it...... he said "Ahem, Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle wiggle, Yeah" ......I didn't ask for song, but I received. Dork, Anywho. He then said to prepare your best swear words, and just wiggle it slowly and try to do one side, hold it in place and do the other. Took him 45 minutes I guess. :/

hahaha well I finally got them both on and then the lid cracked, so I had to purchase another lid! But these ones were a bit easier to get on. Once they were pushed in far enough, I also used the clear packing tape and it worked great! :)
