Silicone for glueing rocks, what kind is right?

Post by CrabbahN.E. » Mon Mar 07, 2016 11:53 am

I saw a lot of people use silicone for glueing rocks and such to the bottom of their deep water bowls or containers. Is this silicone acrylic caulking that you typically use for tubs sinks or Windows , or something else. Is it white or clear. Is there a specific brand that works well. I don't want to introduce anything toxic to my crabbies environment.

Ah, you might get some different answers here so I'll try to make it simple. Some people say silicone at the hardware store is safe as long as it says 100% silicone on it. Others only feel comfortable using Aquarium Safe Silicone, which can also be found at some hardware stores (or some pet stores) and it will say that on the label (for fear that water logged silicone not made to be wet all the time might leech chemicals). The ones sold at pet stores are certainly more expensive than those found at hardware stores.
