Welcome To The Life Of Boomer

Post by marandashermies » Mon Mar 21, 2016 1:58 pm

I really try not to have favorites, but when it comes to Boomer, its hard not to fall head over heals for him! He has a very sweet, silly, loving personality.
Boomer came up from his molt with me a few weeks ago, he resides in my 125g tank and is currently the only straw not molting. I think..Bubbles keeps popping up and then going back down, but Bubbles wasn't around all weekend, so I believe she is finally down for a molt. Boomer is my most active crab, can always be seen wondering about day or night. He gets into everything and eats like a pig! So I wanted to dedicate this thread to Boomer. :D

Playing hide-n-seek with me
Image

He enjoys climbing up to this moss pit/shell shop and leaping off of it. He has big dreams to fly some day.
Image

Boomer spends hours climbing around upside down on the screen lid, teasing the cats. He is extremely noisy when he is being "bat crab" and enjoys seeing the world upside down.
Image
Image

He gets very excited when I let him know its picture time. However, he is always worried if the lighting makes his butt look fat, so sometimes we have to take a few until he approves..
Image
Image
Image

He spends a lot of time lounging by the pools.
Image

He would also like to note, that crabs DO like to swim :D
Image
But prefers to exit the pool sideways, so he can keep an eye on things.
Image
Image

So that is Boomer in a nutshell :) He also wanted to give a shout out to his fellow crustacean homeboys across the living room.

Bubba

And Banana- Boomer wishes you a safe and healthy molt. He will keep Bubba occupied via antenna talk, while you are down..don't worry

Little nugget and unknown crab...you are not forgotten either

XD I am silly, I apologize. But I can see why he's a favorite-he's handsome and has personality, what more could you ask for in a man? XD

LOL its the only thing I can think of! Otherwise they just like the adrenaline rush- in other news, I found out Gary (Big Enzo's twin) is actually a female! Totally got the male vibe, but I was wrong!

Haha! This is too funny! Loved reading it and seeing all the pics! We had a favorite too (shhh!) but he's gone down for a molt. The others are far less interactive and most stay hidden.
Do your PPs swim?! I'd love to see ours submerge like that.

thanks! yes they do! But my straws are fully submerged MUCH more than any of my PP's. This could have to do with them living closer to the beach and ocean than the PP's do. Although, some do love swimming, others prefer to just dip their feet in.

They usually sit like this for a while and soak :)

Haha that's great! Most of ours usually hang out on the side and dip their toes in. I THINK I may remember someone mentioning that they saw one of ours all the way in the dish, but I'm not positive. Image
This is the furthest I've seen any of them get. Image & I'm pretty sure this was immediately post-molt. Maybe one day, lol. Image

Tala I love your water dish! Its perfect for them. What did you make it out of? I wish my sand was still that white and clean. The crabs have done a number on it!

Haha! The sand we used in our original 10 gal was dark brown starting out-- I was surprised when I saw this sand was so different. They've only had since November to dirty it up, though lol.

The water dishes are containers we originally got to keep fresh fruits & veggies in. Image The bit on the left fits inside the bowl on the right-- makes replacing their water a thousand times easier because we can just lift the pebbles out then dump the old yucky water. Image

What do you make your pools out of? They are so pretty with the rocks and decorations.
