Re: Remodeling and up grade project. What is your tank like?
I tidied up in the tank tonight-so here's some pics.
Here is the back, right corner. This is a 70 gallon with 9 inches of EE sand mix. I am trying to add more a little at a time until I'm at 12 inches since I have molters down. Then I'll consider if I want to add more...
Here is the left corner of the tank with the second level planter. The plants (week 2) are starting to get beat up by the crabs at this point-I think I might get three weeks out of them.
Here is the middle. In the back you can see the water dishes with driftwood and pebbles in them.
Tank from the right side. I am trying different food bowls right now just out of curiosity as to what foods they really devour.
Tank from the left side. I had a moss pit, but it was in the substrate and I ran out of room for it. So I'm in the process of making a second level moss pit.

How do i determine how many crabs can live in my habitat? I read a formula some where in here but can't find it anymore.

It's under the Crab Care forum, Crabitat Conditions subforum and there is a sticky in that forum called Crabitat: Tank Size, Crab Size & How Many Can You Have? Here's the link:

I think your decor looks great! Very creative use of what you had around, and it looks like those little aquarium sets of themed towns and such that people buy. Nice job. I would do a freshwater if there is going to be a lot of splashing back. Saltwater can build up to an unhealthy level over time, plus it leaves a yucky salty film on things I don't like.

I would suggest you also add turbo shells vs. the snail shells. Most will not use those. You can find green turbo shells in a mixed bag at Michaels or JoAnns in the craft section for cheap. Just pull out all the turbos, boil in salt water and add them to your tat. If you need larger ones, you can get them from the hermit crab patch or else Richard's Sea Shells is my favorite go too!
Your tank looks good! Love all the flowers. Is your sub deep enough? Remember, it will settle after a while, so more is better!

The new tank heater and thermostat and more sand will be coming soon. Got to pay bills first. ^^ I can't wait to introduce my boys to it.
