Re: Naked under the sub, please help
There’s only about an inch. I can hear him in there moving around a good amount and saw him on the camera, climbing on his hut. I don’t get the sense he’s injured…but then again, I never did before and yet I found him like that. He loves to dig though…feel bad for him. Probably all he wants to do. I keep thinking what would’ve happened if that window wasn’t there and I didn’t see him naked…would it have even happened if there was no window…and there’s still, the “whyyyy”!
Just so relieved that he seems to be doing okay!
He can have natural day/night light cycle now right…since he’s finished the molt?

Re: Naked under the sub, please help
If he is coming up and climbing around, he can probably go back into the main tank. Might want to dunk him in the freshwater so he smells less like fresh-ish molt. If the main tank is large enough with enough substrate, he can dig down to molt again if he needs to there.
Yeah, that was really weird to find him like that. Like you, I'm not sure whether it was lucky that you were able to see him, or whether the light from the "window" screwed up his molt and thus somehow caused him to desert his shell underground. It is generally recommended that, if you have a crab dug down to molt that ends up near a "window," you should cover that area of the glass with a piece of cardboard or something, to block all light until the crab comes back up on its own. So, that's what I would do, going forward, if you end up with another one that leaves a "window."

Thank you! I had just figured if he didn’t like the light, he’d move. Haha
Yes, he has been all over the iso tank and destroyed what’s in it, lol. Going to put him back in the main tank tomorrow with a quick dunk!

I think it was Joe Hermits that said he used to cover a window if a crab made one. Then after a while he said, if they want dark, then they'll just have to move. LOL.crabbycasey wrote:Thank you! I had just figured if he didn’t like the light, he’d move. Haha

If they are strong and healthy, that's probably an okay rule; but if they are weaker, ill, or injured (and you can't always tell if they are), they might not have the strength to move once they find themselves blocked up against the glass. That may be what happened to crabbycasey's Turbo. I guess we'll never really know.CrabbyLover77 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 7:06 pmI think it was Joe Hermits that said he used to cover a window if a crab made one. That’s exactly what I said to my boyfriend…that I bet he was too weak to get away from the window at that point! Hard when they can’t tell you they’re hurt. Just so thankful I saw and could help him.
He’s been back in the main tank for a full day and night…and I have no idea where he is, lol. Typical.
Love my little crabbies!
