Interestingly enough my hermit crabs are more successful with planting their food when its a mix of eco earth and sand.

I had a crab actually stuck in a corkround yesterday. I finally rescued him before going upstairs for the night. He had managed to somehow back into a corkround that was snug and when he tried to get out he tipped back. Lol poor guy. ImageImage

He was so stuck I thought I might have to break the corkround but a few good shakes (I felt so bad about it) and he was free. He came out and looked at me, brandished his BP complete with threatening pinches and scurried off. He was still in a bad mood when I came down around 2am to spy on them.

I would have left him alone because I am with the people that say if they can get in they can get out. In his case there was no getting out.

My Rollie Pollies have been breading and there's tiny little white Pollies occupying the holes the big ones dug. They are adorbs!!! There's sooo many! Like 10 in one hole and so many more who are still carrying eggs. My Isopoda are gunna out grow my 2.5 gallon in no time! BTW they climb up the walls and aquarium glue as easily as a crab.

Being super miffed at me for relocating them to a temp tank while I cleaned and mixed sub around while trying not to disturb molters.

Madison sat in the dark corner of the tank for half the day today. She had finally switched out of her shell into a new one. But she was still guarding her old shell. She has lost her favorite shell during a 'try out' with a new one before so I think she was really giving the shell a test drive before letting her old one go. This was fun for me to watch as the majority of my crew rarely change shells, well except for Guppy. He changes every other day but I've never seen him guard a shell after leaving it.

Side note: I feel like I'm always playing peek-a-boo with this crab Image

Rue was chowing down on some dandelion greens with pb and honey (seems to be a favorite), while Katniss was continuing her "oh my god, human! Run!" routine  Finnick seems to still be under, and Peeta may have joined him judging by the fairly large hole near where they were all chilling the other morning.

 "Quick, the giant is home, HIDE!" Just give them some time, I'm sure they'll start to settle in & become more comfortable so you can see more of them! After 6 weeks tomorrow (technically today, I guess, since it's after midnight), mine are finally getting to that point. :D

I've been pleasantly surprised yesterday & today! Boromir made a couple appearances yesterday, perching on the corner of the freshwater pool. He didn't seem to notice or mind me the first time & I was able to get a couple pics (to post at some point) & watch him make his way back down from the edge. The second time I found him when I was opening the lid to change food, and I accidentally scared him into the far corner of the pool, completely underwater. He didn't stay long though, and hightailed it back out to hide in the cork round after I closed the lid.

Today I went to change the food dishes & found him already sitting his fat butt in the supplements dish. I grabbed the main food dish & he went running under the shelf to hide.

And while I haven't seen them up there, I have confirmation that at least one of them (Boromir or Merry, probably Boromir) is climbing up my rope-wrapped jungle vine & getting into the leaf & flower dishes! I don't know that they're necessarily eating anything, but they're at least crawling into them & knocking some stuff out. :D

Scared Ariel today on accident when she was eating food on the second level, she ducked into her Shell so fast she rolled off the platform and onto the log. I felt bad but I couldn't keep from laughing.

Since I finally figured how to work this app here are some pics. The big one in the horse conch is eating his first meal up from a 3 month molt. Not sure who the green one is... I think he is freshly molted and up too

I finally got confirmation that the crabs can get up on the shelf! I'd wrapped the supports in hemp rope so they could climb up it, but I hadn't seen any of them on either shelf level (or even any evidence of them up there) until today. Boromir climbed up after I scared him away from his egg shell he was enjoying...oops! I got a couple pictures of him up on the shelf to post later. :D
