Deal alert. Shower caddy and dilemma

Post by metfan » Thu Jun 18, 2015 2:37 pm

First off, my 5 below store had a 3 pack of plastic shower caddy' s for 4 dollars. One is about 6 inches deep, one soap dish, and one about 3 inches deep. I'm going to make a shell shop out of the soap dish and a moss pit out of the deep one. They all have suction cups. I thought it was a great deal. Then I went to Petsmart. I was upset to find a hermit crab for sale. Poor thing was in a tank with a stone bottom. Humitity was super low. I couldn't see the number but the dial was way low. And there were body parts all over. I assume from a molt. I thought about buying him but wasn't sure if I should support the industry. Plus, I have 3 small crabs in the 20 gallon tank. I don't want to overcroud. Now I feel bad about my decision. What would you do? Should I rescue this little guy?

It's a hard decision. :( Personally I don't like to buy any animal from pet stores - you save the one you bought, but you doom more to end up in the same store. I find it even worse when it's something like hermit crabs, where new ones are guaranteed to be wild-caught & their arrival means countless others have died during the journey there. It's really hard to see things like that though, and to walk away.
