Nuts in shell
Has anyone given their crabs whole nuts still in the shell? I was wondering if big crabs can get into the shells on their own at all...maybe for smaller/weaker ones like almonds? I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow and was considering getting a small bag of mixed whole nuts. Since only my two small guys are up right now (less certain they could get into the shells on their own like the big guys might be able to), I was thinking I might partially crush the shells and then put them in to see if the crabs pick through the rest on their own to get into the nut meat. Has anyone tried this before? Did your crabs like it?

Re: Nuts in shell
Mine crack through acorns, but I have big crabs who get them started for the others. It wouldn't hurt to give them a quick squeeze before tossing them in, but they don't need fully peeled.
Watch the ingredients of what you're buying. Since they're whole they can be cleaned with chemicals since humans don't eat the outsides. The ones I bought for myself had been treated with sulfur dioxide, so the crabs only got the insides.

Okay, thanks Wode!
I'll see if I can find organic ones or something instead...maybe I'll stop by the natural grocery store, it's right near the store I'm going to anyway. They'd probably be more likely to have crabby-safe ones.
I'll post pictures/videos if my two little ones check them out while I get a chance to watch!
