how to save leftover snow crab shells?
how to save leftover snow crab shells?
My guys are getting little pieces of leftover snow crab legs for dinner tonight. How can I save the rest of the shells for future meals? Break them up (how small?) and freeze? Dry them out in the oven? If I can save them, I'll have meals for months, LOL.
Re: how to save leftover snow crab shells?
I'd freeze them, but that's just cuz it seems like the least amount of effort.

Ah... While I was waiting for replies I decided to dry them in the oven a little, to make the shells easier to break. When the timer sounded I turned off the oven but forgot to take the shells out so they got kind of toasted, lol. On the plus side they were easy to smash! I partially vacuum sealed them, but since I'm not sure they got completely dried out (there were little bits of meat still), I should probably still put them in the freezer, you think?

I'm not sure.. I've not had experience with drying. Awesome you're making your own crab food though!

I hadn't realized that's what I'm doing, but your'e right, thanks! I just eat a lot of leftovers, so this is another level of saving leftovers of something I would normally throw out. I can tend to be wasteful and not especially environmentally friendly, so I get to feel good about it, too, lol!Rawrgeous wrote:I'm not sure.. I've not had experience with drying. I did put the bag in the freezer, just in case. After it sat on the counter for two days, lol. Despite the shells being extra toasty, the crabs seemed to really like it!
