Crickets got into my tank?

Post by Heatherleighhh » Tue Sep 13, 2016 3:35 pm

Im sorry if this isn't the right area to post this but I'm not sure where to put it.

Somehow I ended up with some crickets in my crab tank. Beyond being annoying at night to hear will they hurt my crabs? I kill the ones I can find but I'm obviously missing a few. I really don't want to tear my tank apart but will if they can hurt my crab in any way. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you

They will breed in the tanks and annoy the crabs. They will also drown in the water pools

I know with lizards extra crickets in the tank isn't good because they will bite the lizards if they don't have a food source. Crickets can breed quickly so I would clear the tank asap. Hermit crab tanks are perfect for crickets to breed and eggs to hatch, especially iif you have coco fiber or moss. Idk if they can harm the crabs hard exo but just to be cautious I'd get them out of there quickly.
Crickets are omnivores so they will eat anything

If they bite a lizard, they could bite a moulting crab... Best to take them out IMO.

They can breed fast enough that you will soon lose all the food to the crickets.

My favortie way of dealing with them was using a dustbuster type of vacuum to collect them before throwing them out the window, but honestly the only effective way I found to deal with a cricket infestation was to remove my crabs, seal the crabitat, and let the crickts die off.
