Why hasn't my Halloween crab molted?

I've had lunar for roughly six months now. I purchased him at a rather far petstore where he was living in unsatisfactory conditions with two larger crabs. Lunar was bullied and missing a leg and a claw. He is now living in my custom vivarium and I'm not sure why he hasn't gone and molted yet to grow his missing limbs back. Anyone have an idea why?

2. It has not been provided a shelter or substrate to construct a shelter.

I didn't realize they can take that long to molt. It seems on here that crabs molt within a couple weeks of purchase. Now I'm not worried about mine. I've had them for about 3 months.

This is the Other Types of Crabs section. Halloween crab is a name commonly used for Gecarcinus quadratus, you might know it as a moon crab.

I meant was that HermiesGuardian said that most crabs here, and I thought that meant on this website, not just on this section. When HermiesGuardian said that most crabs molt within a few weeks of purchase, it sounded more like a regular coenobita. So I thought HermiesGuardian was talking about coenobita.

Hermiesguardian here. Ummm...if coenobitas are purple pinchers, then yes. I was referring to them only because from what I've read on this site they are the most common hermit crabs people have. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Hey all!

So, this post was made in the Other Crabs section, which is not always apparent when reading through the new post lists. It is for discussions involving crabs that are not land hermits. These other types of crabs are quite different than the hermies we talk about everywhere else on the forum, and usually a lot less is known about them and their care as they are not as common of a pet.

Coenobita are the genus that include all species of land crab. Other crabs are spread across several different genera.
