Woohoo! First molter is up!

Post by ElektraSparkle » Wed Aug 09, 2017 7:11 am

Two nights ago, I heard a tapping noise in my tank. I've been able to hear at least one crab moving around in the tank for a few days but hadn't seen any on the surface. Turned out that one of my molters who has been down since mid-May has resurfaced and is doing really well! Now just waiting on two more who have been down for almost three whole months. Will post pictures soon.

Yay! How big is he? Since Mid-May is a long time! I have had one down for three weeks and am finding it almost unbearable!

He's only small, slightly bigger than a large grape. He may have done a couple of molts while buried but I feel that temperature may have played a role in him being down for ages; I live in Australia so it's winter here and my UTH is useless (luckily I got a cheap space heater which has been wonderful for them). It came as a huge shock when he suddenly reappeared! I know what it feels like to have to wait for them to come back up to see if they're okay; I'm still waiting on two more who went down early to mid-May as well.

Thanks! Your advice a couple of months back really helped me (he got dug up and wouldn't go back down).

He should start to gain his color back in the next few days Image

He's going a nice shade of brown now.

One of my others is just pure white. Doesn't matter whether he's just molted or about to molt, he doesn't have a great deal of colour.

I've heard from someone else that a paleness could be due to lack of proper nutrition. (Only if actually a white color). Some crabs are just not as colorful as others. Image

Actually come to think of it, the one who is "white" is more of a very light brown with darker brown streaks on the legs and claws. The light in the room they're kept in sometimes makes them look white. He's nowhere near as colourful as my others.
