Grape vines and roots

Post by Purplepinchermomma » Mon Sep 04, 2017 9:19 pm

Hello, I always see on lists that hermits can eat grape vines and roots. I grow grapes but not the normal ones, I grow the ones for jelly. I recently picked them all and was wondering if I could feed them some of these and some of the vines/roots. Also how would I prepare the vines/roots?

I assume the ones you grow still dont have pesticides and what not. If not, then it be safe to offer. Id just scrub and do a low temp bake.

Thank you I'll cut some off today and try it! Hopefully they like them. They seem to be rather picky recently

I've been growing some concord vines in the hopes they'll be sturdy enough to withstand the crabboos climbing exploits. It's slow growing, but I'm using poop-type ferts & will eventually pot them on the side of the tank. If you have pesticide free/fertilizer free grape vine, it may be worth a try decorating the tank with them... just don't plant them in the sub, the roots need to be in a pot. :)

Thank you I'll have to try that my grapes are 100% free of pesticides and fertilizer. Are the leaves that grow on the vine safe? Or should I clip them off? Also the grapes yes or no? My PPS love organic grapes but I wasn't sure because of the tartness of these.

Leaves should be fine.

Only way to find out if they like the grapes is to offer them! :D

Okay thank you! Tried to offer them some tonight with their "trail mix" but haven't seen if they like it yet due to the fact they decided it was climbing night and stuck themselves to the lid.... slowly lifted it to put food in and they hung tight....
