Getting my crab a friend?

I have a single crabby at the moment. I was thinking about getting him a friend but currently have a 10 gallon tank. I’m not sure if it’s enough room for a friend.
Do crabbies like their own hides? Or do they share?
I know I need more sand as well! I’m working on it life has been busy!
Would I need a bigger tank to get him a friend?

A ten gallon tank will hold two for a bit depending on size.


As for hides, they will share but if they’re not feeling social they’ll sometimes prefer to be alone.

Just a note, you can take the sponge out of the dish. Wet sponges will harbor bacteria. You can leave them in the tank dry for the crabs to munch on though.

Also, if you have a purple pincher crab, it looks like you may not be offering the correct type of shell. PP's prefer shells with round openings, like turbos. Here's the shell care sheet:

I always like to have multiple hiding places for my crabs. They seem to come out more when they know they have plenty of places to go and hide if they need to.
