Where to actually put my tank?
Where to actually put my tank?
I'll soon be setting up a 20 gallon tank and didn't really consider how heavy it will end up being. I was going to put it on my desk or dresser but now I'm concerned that it'll be too heavy. Where should my tank go?

I've got a 20 on my (solid wood) dresser. If you're concerned that it will be too heavy, you can get a tank stand--a large amount of sand shouldn't weigh very different from a full tank of water.
3 PPs: Maxwell (small), Mitchelle (medium/small), Kendall (medium/large)
also have 10gal freshwater fishtank w/ neon tetras, pygmy cories, and nerite snails

I have my 10g tank with 30 pounds of sand on my desk! My desk definitely isn't the best, so your desk should support your 20g long with sub just fine! The metal reinforcements will add extra security too! Do you have it set up yet? How is it going?!
I have 5 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!

You're looking at about 200 pounds of dead weight, so it should be something sturdy that can handle that much over extended periods. Most newer furniture just isn't made to do that anymore.

I'm with Wodes. I don't trust any newer furniture for my fish tanks or crab tanks (unless it is specifically made as an aquarium stand, or to hold a couple hundred pounds like some shelving units/racks are). I have a bureau that's at least 40 years old that holds my 6'x2' tortoise enclosure. That bureau is super sturdy and solid. I still have the tall dresser to match it in my room that holds my tv. I also have a very large entertainment stand that holds my 40 gal crab tank (used to be used for my fish). That stand is probably 30+ years old. I feel old saying this (even though I'm in my 30s), but they just don't make things like they used to lol!

How are the top of the dresser and desk attached to the rest of the wood?
