Commercial crab food worms/ calcium powder?

Post by HermitGuy3 » Mon Nov 25, 2024 1:31 pm

Hello! So I was wondering, would it be okay to feed my crabs some dried shrimp and mealworms? They are from a commercial crab food container ( thrive). I know now that the commercial food is bad for them, however I was wondering if I could pick out the shrimp/ mealworms and still have it safe? I also was wondering about if the Thrive calcium supplement was okay? (It is a powder) Thanks for any answers!
I love my two cool crabs Zote and Fizban.
And my cats Echo and Smudge.

The worry about commercial foods is what preservatives are used in it. Not all commercial food is bad for crabs.

Here is our care sheet that explains it:

I don't see any of those in the ingredients, but I still don't want to feed my crabs the pellets. However I don't have an animal protein right now and I could give them the shrimp and stuff for now.

The dried shrimp and mealworms would be fine to feed, many crabbers just buy them to feed to their crabs. Usually found in the reptile sometimes fish sections of petstores.

JJ, I think the mix the OP is referring to has pellets, dried shrimp, and meal worms all together in the one jar.
