New hermit crabs molting?
New hermit crabs molting?
I just got two medium sized PPs at the begining of December one disappeared about a week after we got them and the other was active, eating, and changed shells but disappeared at the begining of January. I think they are both molting but its been like 5ish weeks since ive seen the one and some people I know think its dead even if the tank doesnt smell so im scared the other ate it.

Re: New hermit crabs molting?
5 weeks isn't long, they an stay under for a few months. The reason we have deep substrate and don't over crowd our tanks, is so they are safe underground and won't come across each other when they are under there.
Don't dig around looking for them. If one is dead, there is nothing you can do for it by digging it up. But if it's still molting, you could cause injury or death.

Definitely not planning on digging for them, just curious if since this is their first molt with me would they be molting for longer and would they be fine for pps after they come back up? Also curious if it would be a bad idea to rearange bits of their tank while they are molting (not digging anything up just adding and swapping out some stuff)

Risk of death from PPS goes down significantly after the first molt so if they come up they should be in clear
Rearranging decorations is okay so long as you aren’t pressing stuff down into the substrate
