Removal of post counts and titles

Post by Christa » Fri Jun 24, 2005 9:17 am

Greetings,

With the move to the new server, some long-standing issues needed to be addressed. One of these is the problem of people on the forum who are more concerned about their post counts and rankings than they are with contributing helpfully to the HCA community.

This is causing a waste of space which in turn leads to the database growing and the Admins and Moderators having to manually clean the forums more often. Then invariably we get messages from post-count-conscious individuals worrying that their count has gone down.

To address this issue the Board has decided to do away with post counts and special titles except Moderator, Tech Support and Administrator.

The special titles have been removed already and over the weekend we expect to remove post counts as well.

The Board re-states its request that you note in your signature how long you have owned hermit crabs. That is much more important in our community than how many posts you have made here.

This decision might not be popular with everyone, but it is final. The Board has entertained this idea over the years for numerous reasons and the time has finally come where any benefits to retaining post counts have been lost.

Thank you for your understanding and happy crabbing!

Sincerely,
Christa Wilkin
President, Hermit Crab Association
on behalf of the Board of Directors
