first molt....I think
I was just giving my crabs some fresh food and water and one of my crabs has dug in a crevice of the drift wood I have in the tank. I can see the top of the shell but he has dug down. Is he moulting? I have had them since Easter week. We drove with them back from Fla to Ohio. I only have a 10 gal tank and there are 2 other small crabs in there with him. I have read that the may try to dig him up what can I do to make sure they don't bother him? I don't have another tank and hes right against the drift wood so I cant put anything around him since I don't really know where he is. I don'tnwant to hurt him. Any advice would be great thanks.

Let him do his thing. Don't worry too much. Make sure the temperature and humidity are in the right zones. Feed your crabbies enough protein and they should leave him alone. :]

What would I make sure that I feed them? How long are they normal down for?

Unseasoned meat. Eggs are great for protein. Crushed eggshells are good too. Although it might be calcium that they're good for. That'll keep them from trying to eat your molter. You can buy things at pet stores too. Krill, shrimp, bloodworms, mealworms. Those are great in protein. Mine have some worms and some ham and turkey now. :3 Plus the typical fresh fruits and veggies.
Smaller crabs are usually down for less than a month. I'm not sure the typical amount. It varies for each crab though. Theyre all different.
