2 of crabs are molting, now I can't find a third!

Post by Krystal710 » Mon May 14, 2012 8:51 am

Hello, I'm a relatively new crabber, 2 of 4 of my crabs have been burried now about 2 weeks. They are relatively close to each other but I think one may have traveled a lil further away. I finally got the humidity and temp just right at 80 for both. My newest smaller one has been all around the tank checkin out his new home, however I noticed he/she was burrowing a small indent almost right above where I think a crab is molting. But he would just sit in his nook, now I can't find him! I can't find a tunnel that he burried himself nothing!I'm so nervous I'm starting to think he escaped! I have a secured lid on there but I have no idea where he is! If he did bury himself should I be worried about him being to close to my molter?

I have a 20g long tank with screen top taped up 1/2 play sand 1/2 soil ( both the crabs that are burried are in the soil, I think that my lil guy may be too) 1 salt water dish 1 fresh water dish temp n humidity at 80

Thanks in advance for any help!

(btw I found a third tunnel, he's very close to where I believe my Clawdia is, what should I do?)

well if hes molting or de stressing which he probably is, i think you should just let them be unless you want to cause more stress on them

Well of Course I don't want to do that, I'm just concerned they're too close, will one just move away or will the small one attack the molter? :( and now my tanks empty lol I was one crab who barely moves because he's recooping from being nude for 2 days a lil bit ago and the other 3 are burried :( lol oh well in time they'll cOme back uP, I hope hah

two of mine molted pretty much in the same hole at the same time, and they both came up within hours of eachother.. i personally think they should be fine :)
