Re: Bringing home the newest member of the family...
How heartbreaking. It's hard when there's nothing you can do to fix what's wrong. At least you know you did all you could.

Re: New Class Pet
Don't know the age of the kids in your class or how tech savy you guys are, but one fun thing some of us have done is to take videos of the crabs at night. Since they're nocturnal, often the most activity is done at night (eating, running on the hamster wheel, shell changing and climbing, getting in...

Re: New Crab Owner and Clueless!
Thanks for all the help! Today I bought quite a bit of stuff, including two (way smaller!) PP crabs. I also bought: 24 quart bag of Coco Fiber, UTH (reptotherm), Some fake plants and a hiding place, two water bowls, a thermometer, InsantOcean, Substrate Scooper, a spray bottle, distilled water, ter...

Re: New Crab Owner and Clueless!
Thanks for all the help! However, I still have many more questions. My friend just gave me a 20 gallon tank, but someone living with her had chew cans piled up in it, resulting in the tank having tobacco in it. How would I go about cleaning this tank thoroughly? As of right now, he is still in his ...

Re: Is Aquatopia food ok for hermies?
I have not used that food before, but unless you can list the ingredients, I wouldn’t call it safe yet. These are the ingredients: Fish meal, Shrimp meal, Flour, Yeast, Cereals, Corn starch, Phosphorus, Calcium, Fish oil, Lecithin, Vitamin C, Amino acids, Multivitamins and minerals Guaranteed Analy...

Re: How long do you leave your pad heater on or when?
I recently just got a heater pad for the side of my tank. My house is usually around 70-80F. How long should I leave the pad on per day? Or should I only have on at night since it’s cold or during the day? They’re more active at night while only one is always active in the day time. I use a thermos...

Re: Double-dish bubbler pics, yo!
How can I make a hole in a mesh lid? Metal shears. Bolt cutters. Be careful of the edges of the mesh - plan to bend them back when you're done, or coat/cover them with something so they won't poke you and/or tubing. I'd wear Spectra gloves or something else puncture proof/resistant. Regular leather...

Re: Question on heating and UTH
I purchased an additional uth. It appears to be heating more than the first and my temp is staying between 77-81 degrees. So yay! My humidity is low on the end with both uths, but gets near 80 on the opposite end. Is this range okay? Edit: my humidity has leveled out at 76/77. And my heat at 77-79 ...

Re: We received 3 rescues yesterday!!!
The last guy went down at some point last night. Now all 3 are down. These 3 are a lot bigger than all our other crabs. I would consider these guys Large since the shells are a bit bigger than a golf ball. I know larger crabs generally take longer to molt than smaller crabs. Our others are usually ...

Re: We received 3 rescues yesterday!!!
Two of these guys went down so far. The painted shell has been down since Saturday afternoon, the guy that changed shells went down late Sunday after spending several hours in the water. I'm a bit worried about the third guy. He is spending most of his time, that I have seen, in the coconut. He was...

Re: Question on heating and UTH
Thank you so much. I was worried after I got the UTH hooked up and it didnt seem to be heating well that it was simply a bad brand. Getting a new UTH isnt a problem, I went into this (this time at least) realizing how much I could end up spending. Ill look at both the brands you recommended (and no...

Re: Question on heating and UTH
i have a 1:1 ratio of ecoearth and playsand, this is the ratio I always previously used. It is 6 inches deep, but I do plan to add more sand before I get any lil ones for the home. The UTH covers almost the whole side area of the tank (above the substrate) and is a zoo med heater. I could not remem...

Re: Question on heating and UTH
Hello all, iv just recently decided to get back into crabbing (after being torn up about having to stop due to graduating and moving into what i thought would be a dorm). Me and my husband have made the decision that starting up again would be fun. My house runs in the 60s (normally near 69 but som...
