Re: It's Been a While...

Ok, everyone. I know you are all very against digging, but Friday has now been down for five months and Jarvis went down for his molt a couple weeks ago. I expect Jarvis to be back mid-late June or so, and I plan to dig after the six month mark. I know that everyone is very, very against it, but I ...

Re: Ask questions about food not included on lists here!

Anyone ever fed coconut flour? I didn't see it on the safe or unsafe lists. It says it's just defatted coconut. Can't imagine it is harmful, put some in the food dish tonight...

Re: Welcoming Felicity Crab-19

Thanks all for welcoming my new crabbo. She has been very sneaky, haven't managed to see her since her second night in the tank. My two larger boys are above ground and very active at the moment, so hopefully if she is underground she feels very secluded/safe. Keeping the food bowl stocked with good...

Dare I ask how much they charge for a crab at a pet store?
They charged me $12.99. PetSmart and Petco are usually cheaper, but if I'm buying a hermit crab I'd rather spend a few extra dollars at a local business.

Welcoming Felicity Crab-19

I've had my two PP's for almost a year and a half. Been wanting to add one more for the longest time, but wanted to try to avoid purchasing from a pet store. Months and months of scouring Craigslist, etc and nothing turned up. I finally decided yesterday to just purchase from the same local mom & po...

Re: What's on today's menu & recipe sharing

Ooh, snakeskin! Where do you get that? I mostly just feed them whatever I can come up with in the fridge :crabblush: I bought a tiny bag from Hermie's Kitchen. :) I do lots of food from the fridge myself. But do try to make sure to have random treats/items around to make their diet more well rounde...

Re: Where is the best place to buy shells ?

Adding a second recommendation for Naples. I have placed 2 or 3 orders with them as my PPs have grown in the past year & I have found them the easiest site to navigate. Plus super easy to review your last order summary (save the email!) and see what size shells you last bought and just size up in th...

Re: Newbie needing direction

New crab owner. Tank is not sufficient. Best way to do the basics STAT. My little crabs are awful sluggish, not eating, in fact one has been burried for almost a week. Not sure if humidity levels will cause this or molting. I'm unable to upgrade tank because I read not to disturb him. Looking for d...

Re: Tank Upgrade, Temp not high enough. Suggestions?

@craboloading That analog thermometer can probably be calibrated. Maybe it spun out of cal? I’m having a hard time believing you can’t get temps up. You have covered more tank with heaters than I do and your room is warmer than mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It read the room temperature r...

Maybe bump up the temp on your regulator. I've had to do that this winter.

As in the temperature in the house? We keep it at 69° during the day and 66° at night. I am finding it hard to believe that with 2 UTH I can only get 5° above room temperature. :/

Tank Upgrade, Temp not high enough. Suggestions?

Hi, all. I upgraded my 2 PPs from a 10 gallon to a 29 gallon today, woohoo! Only trouble is, the temperature is not going above 74°. I have a Ultratherm UTH that covers sub level all the way up that is covering 70% of the back wall & a second Ultratherm UTH covering top to bottom on one side. Both l...

Re: Upgrading tank, can I get another crab?

I would definately think you can do 3 in a 29. Unless they were jumbo. If the 29 is higher than the 10, I assume it is, put more than 6 inches of substrate. I'm glad to hear that! 3 sounded like a safe number, but I just needed some reassurance on that -- thank you. :) I'm definitely planning on de...
