Re: List of Questions for Hermit Crab Care

I've quoted your post and answered in bold below the questions. :) I've helped taken care of hermit crabs for almost 4 years, at my job at a pet store, but I've personally owned them for a little over a year. Most of the answers I've given are a fairly equal mix of my own personal experience and wha...

Re: Cuddly crabs!!!

What a beauty! I also take mine out every so often. A lot of the time for health checks, but I just like to see my babies sometimes. I won't typically bother the ones who are extremely skittish, but one of mine, Penny, is very friendly and not shy at all (and also my biggest one). But anyway, Prince...

Power Outages

Inspired by the fact that because we had an extremely bad windstorm yesterday and throughout the night before, we lost power and didn't get it back for almost 8 hours. This brought along an issue: the heating of my hermit crabs. Now, we live in an area which experiences frequent power outages, espec...

I use the same thing it’s a hygrometer/ thermometer that has a prob for temp and humidity. They suction cup to the glass. I really like mine because I can tell the stats on both sides of my crabitat.

I agree, it's amusing how different they are. Such distinctive personalities.

Re: My beginner crabitat. Any suggestions

Sorry I meant to say 10gal. I don’t know why I said 5. I’m hoping to upgrade to a 20 gal maybe for Christmas. I feed a mixture of hermit crab food and grains and fruits and veggies. In the picture was barely flax and hermit crab food. I just added a piece of organic apple. I bought the mineral bloc...

Re: New Furry Addition!

Oh. Haha, looks like a rat, never seen hamsters in that colouration... actually, never seen hamsters. They aren't legal to keep in Australia. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk That's crazy, I had no idea they were illegal there! But yeah, he does have an interesting color pattern. They're usuall...

Re: Using sink water with BRITA water filter?

What if I just get freshwater from the fish store? It'll be so much cheaper to just get a water conditioner. I work at a pet store and never recommend my customers getting the pre-conditioned stuff, as it's literally just overpriced conditioned water. So yes, it would probably work. But it's not wo...

Re: New Furry Addition!

It's a hamster, haha! Although I do have 3 rat sisters as well.

This little guy is in a 10g temporarily until we can get a cage topper on Friday, so his setup is a bit boring at the moment.

New Furry Addition!

His name is Tomato. (Odd, but my girlfriend thought it fitting, since we have a LH that we adopted named Potato.) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EG-Eiy0X0AIn7WL?format=jpg&name=medium He's been at my work for a few weeks now. Came in with a strange head tilt and clearly wasn't able to see very well; we...

Re: Using sink water with BRITA water filter?

I don't have any experience with this filter, but even the website shows that it doesn't remove everything from the water. It also depends on the type of Brita filter, but regardless, all of them vary but don't remove everything 100%. I would guess that while it might make the water safer than befor...

Re: MY HALLOWEEN CRAB IS BUBBLING AND HER LEG FELL OFF

omg thank u so much. You're sure i can feed overripe fruit to them? Could the hermit crabs eat it too though? I wouldn't see why not, honestly. Hermit crabs eat all kinds of rotten fruit and deceased animals in the wild, so I can't imagine it would be unsafe for them. Of course, I personally wouldn...

Re: New second level

I love this! Great inspiration, too. I've been planning something similar but with bamboo poles. I just love the idea of having different levels within the tank.
