Got pinched!!!

Post by NLindsey921 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 10:35 am

Was cleaning the tank today trying to get rid of the poop and was moving a crab and he reached out and pinched me. It hurt to high heavens. I fully expected there to be blood but no. Eventually he let go but that's the last time I mess with him.

Yep, once pinched, twice shy. The last time I was pinched was almost two years ago when I was transferring the guys into the new 29g. One of the two really small crabs did not tuck up into his shell when I picked him up and managed to grab hold of my forefinger -- talk about seeing stars!! He let go and drew into his shell when I put my hand flat on the counter; however, as soon as I picked him up again (both time from the back of his shell), he shot forward, swung his BP backward and nailed me again in the same spot  ! Once he was on the counter again, I gently maneuvered him into a coffee mug to deposit him in the new tank's moss pit. The little bugger, previously known as Pakyraku, was renamed Mr Pinch and I have never put my hand anywhere near him since then !

Yeah. I layer my hand flat down and waited until he let go about five minutes later and then put him in one of the little cups used to transport from the pet store and put him back in the tank like that.

Getting pinched is terrible. My mom bought a crab for me the other day (she felt bad for it) and so after I dunked it in fresh water to put him in with the rest of the colony, he got me. My hand was flat and everything but he still managed to pinch me. My mom panicked and tried to wiggle him off my hand (much to my protest) and let me tell you, that was horrible. Eventually, after I persuaded her to leave him alone, he let go, and joined his new family. It bled a little and everything. He id a big crab though.

I've only ever been pinched by the same crab twice. He pinched me once when I was showing him to my grandpa, and that one really hurt because it was the center of my palm. The second time, not as much, because it was the lose skin on my knuckle. When it happens I just lower him to the ground and he lets go.

I had mines lowered and he still did not want to let go.

I've never been pinched and hope i never do came close though. What does it feel like on scale of 1 to 10 in pain? I'm covered in tattoos and honestly never once thought it hurt. I'm wondering how if this compares to a bee sting?

I think it really depends on how big your crab's pincher is. Getting pinched by a jumbo is definitely going to hurt a lot more than getting pinched by a teeny or micro. I'm not exactly sure how big Edd is, but I believe he's in the medium through large range. It hurt quite a bit, enough to make me yell at my siblings to get out of the way to let me put him back down. I forget if I cried or not, but it left a bruise in the palm of my hand. I've heard that some can draw blood when they pinch too.

Wow didn't expect it to be that serious. Yeah i mean i never handle my crabs unless i upgrade tanks and move them or have to move them in another place in the tank for cleaning or water changes but i rarely have to do any of that.

When mine pinched me it hurt for a minute then I kinda got use to it and I didn't feel the pain but when he moved I could tell he still had a grip and them when he let go there was a minute where it hurt again and every time I touched it for about an hour afterwards it would hurt. I would kind of compare it to getting a shot. But of course mine is just a medium.

With as soft as their pinchers look, I thought it wouldn't hurt at all. I'm new at crabbing, so I guess I better be careful
