Is burlap OK?

Post by crabby_D » Sun Apr 24, 2016 5:24 pm

I have seen some of you post that you've used it. I just bought some, and soaked it in a white vinegar/water mix. Then I rinsed it in dechlorinated water.

It just has such a chemical-y smell!!! I am paranoid about contaminating the tat. Will the smell subside? It is still wet, so maybe that isn't helping?
Thx. :)

I don't trust burlap anymore. They treat it to help it keep it's color and so it doesn't dry out and break apart. I wouldn't use it, but that's just me ^•^ maybe someone else knows a better way to get rid of that chemically smell

I've never found a burlap that I liked. They all smelled really chemicall-y, and cheap fabrics made overseas are swimming in toxins. I think if you could find one made here with organic fabric that hasn't been treated it could definitely work. I know that hermits are often shipped in burlap bags, but depending on where those bags are coming from it could exacerbate the rate of PPS.

I found a really nice 100% jute burlap that I've been using. Just faint earthy smell. I washed it in cold water and it ravelled in the washer like crazy. Then I soaked it in Himalayan pink salt brine overnight and line dried it before use to keep mold growth down.

Where Jedi? And I'm assuming you put it in your tat already, how did they like it?
