Crab on surface not moved for 4 days

Henry has not moved
He was adopted May 8th 2016
He has previously been active
He buried and stayed under for at least 10days then resurfaced and was active
His claw pinches when given a sultana but he does not move to eat it
Our other two crabs are active
Our crabitat is correct- to the best of my knowledge
I appreciate any help as 8th April was when we started learning about crabs
Henry is my 3 1/2 year old sons crab - he has recently been assessed and has ASD. He is fascinated with Henry

Can you tell if he molted? If he molted and came up that quick then he's doing his post molt and needs to be left alone.

He looks the same...
He is a pale colour compared to the other crabs (like that when we adopted) and none of the 'hairs' on him I can see
I have been hoping he would at least change shells because he is in a painted shell...
I have been insisting to my children that he be left alone and this has been the case. Except for me checking he was still alive yesterday.
Could I put him in an enclosed hut with an opening that the other two bigger crabs cannot get through in case he is surface moulting?

That is what I would do, but a more experienced crabber can please correct me if I'm wrong. He may be doing a surface molt, so covering him with the enclosed hut sounds like a good idea to give him some darkness and just be hands off. Good luck!! Hope he is ok!

Hi there and I know how frustrating this waiting can be. Along the lines of surface molting, if you feel this may be a real issue then I would immediately isolate him in another container. Keep it dark and of course have food and waters available to him at all times. You may also want to place additional shells in his enclosure in case he wishes to change shells. Sometimes if a proper shell is not available, this too can cause a surface molt. But please be sure to remove him from his current enclosure asap as your 2 other crabs may wish to "dine" with him if he surface molts. Best wishes, Nonna

Wanted to clear up a couple of things.

Surface molting has absolutely nothing to do with shells. Not having the proper shell could put crabs at risk for injury or death from another crab trying to steal it's shell.

Crabs are harvested from the wild and go through a LOT before they end up with us.

They could be ill or injured and oftentimes just sit for a while to destress when in a new home.

The best thing you can do is leave the crab alone, make sure your conditions are good, and wait it out. If you choose to isolate the crab, that's fine.

Please answer these questions and we can help address any issues with your crabitat. It is unfortunate but misinformation runs rampant and pet stores do not give good care info.
