Crabs in Numbers?

Post by amwilliams » Thu Oct 06, 2016 11:07 am

So I've recently set up a 29 gallon tank and started it out with 3 crabs. I lost one due to PPS and am just debating really whether it's necessary to add more than that. Is 2 an okay number? I was thinking (since I'm a new crabber) that I should really get a little more acquainted with these guys that I have before I would add another. I don't think I really want to expand beyond more than 3 in total, but I just thought I'd see what anyone else thought.

Thanks!!

2 is fine! As long as they have a buddy they'll do ok. :)

As @Rawrgeous said, 2 is fine. I've been crabbing for a bit over 8 years and currently have 4 PPs in a 29g. It's a rare occasion when all 4 are up at once: more often it's just one or two at a time. When it's only one crab up (at the moment, it's Mr Pinch), he seems to really enjoy having all the above ground space to himself -- no one to have to share the pools, food/leaf bowls or favorite climbing spots with. Crabs are aware that other crabs are in the tank, even when only one is visible.
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
