i forgot Georga and Scott dont work on sundays and they are our horticulturist. i did talk to my chemical manager/garden manager and he said all air plants are basically the same type of plant. he did give me so research to better figure that out. also georga and scott work tomorrow so i will also ask them. sorry for the delay but im also going to ask for seeds that are ok to use in the tank. i hear they like fresh sprouts.

Actual lols.

Air plants are bromeliads (like pineapples! ) but in a different genus. They are called Tillandsia. They're native to s./central Americas, are green year round and flower perennially. You can't really mistake them because they're spikey & don't have roots, so if it looks like an air plant, crabs'll be happy with it. :D

Ladyjinglyjones [lol suuuch a cute name!] That is a great base for understanding air plants im only just starting too thanks to scott. We have some technical air plants but they arent crab safe. The one i have pictured is the most common and completely safe. Scott said hes making me a list of others.

Dang, I had no notion that there were unsafe air plants... most pages just list Tillandsia as being safe.

Are the ones you have that aren't safe the ones with the long, round, thin, squiggly leaves?

(And the name is taken from a nonsense poem by Edward Lear, of Owl & Pussycat fame. S'called The Courtship of The Yongy Bongey Bo.)

Me either until scot started bringing up big words and so on. The one he pointed out as being an unsafe example looked very similar to an aloe plant without the spikes.

He then pointed out a cacti that grows in the same soil and climate conditions. Its also reptile and invertebrates. Do you have any knowledge with cacti since you seem to have some awesome plant knowledge

I love succulents, which is the group cacti belong to (though most succulent plants aren't cacti). Aloe is a type of succulent. But it's a huge group so I couldn't generalize about plant or invert safety. I'm still looking into safe plants myself, but I find conflicting info more frequently than I'd like. Le sigh.

Same. Its so confusing. Thats why im just trying to make sure the plants grow/are found in similar soil conditions to hermits sub. Similar climates or the same regions my PPs are found. Then lastly if they are safe for reptiles and invertebrates. I haven't even added the umbrella plant yet bc im worried it's not 100% safe and dont know what a curious hermit may or may not try to eat lol.

Great info!! Thanks, LadyJinglyJones:) Are there any particular stores online that are good to order from? Want to make sure they are pesticide free. I love how they look in the tanks!!

Riiight! I have a warehouse that my own store orders from but need ro verify its chemical free. Only down side is it has one of the most expansive selections ive seen so makes me a little nervous about accidentally ordering an unsafe plant.

FIIIIIINALY i woke up to someone up checking out a large shell. I THINK its Uu because he's my only blue. It was very hard to tell in his red lighting. As i was getting ready for work i also didnt really have time to look. Well when i changed the light i couldnt see him at all. No idea how this giant crab is hiding.....and then i see pretending to be an empty shell another one! Again no ides who because at this point I was late for work [hahahaha distracted by my hermits] but she [since Uu is my only male] is so white in places and pale pink with black hairs everywhere. Has to RoxSand or Hermione. .thinking maybe RoxSand but really no idea.
