Food preparation question
Food preparation question
Hi! Newbie here so maybe a stupid question. I have read through the safe foods and am ready to feed. Do I need to pulverize everything I give them or can I just dice it? So the list has oranges and broccoli. Can I just dice or does this need to be crushed to make it like paste for them to eat? I can't seem to find info on this. Same question for the eggshells and cuttlebone. Thank you!
Re: Food preparation question
The easier you make things the easier they can eat it. But it isnt necessary for them at all. Every once in awhile i just go ahead and give them something whole. The cuttle bone i put in like a surf board just stuck in the sub. Egg shells i also put in whole and they have nooooo problem with it. Most things i dice small so i can waste less

Got it. Thank you!
Re: Food preparation question
On the same food topic, is it ok to buy some of these veggies and fruits and just freeze them until I am ready to use to I waste less? Some things I just don't eat so I am thinking that buying a bit and freezing extra would be helpful.
Re: Food preparation question
A lot of others do that. Expecially with meats. Even bugs [so they aren't an escape risk as well.]. Main thing to keep in mind is you loose some of the vital nutrients, minerals and vitamins. So mix in some fresh and raw when you can and youll do fine!
Any times you have questions im sure anyone here will be more than happy to help!

Re: Food preparation question
I freeze a lot of things for the crabs - it just helps for convenience sake. I even have portioned out frozen organic baby food for them
I don't really pulverize any of the foods I give our hermies. I just cut in small chunks and they seem to be able to pull off what they want, even our smallest guys:)

Re: Food preparation question
How do you store the individual portions of baby food?

Re: Food preparation question
I found these ice cube trays on sale at CVS last year and each area is about as big as a pointer finger tip. I heard about others using organic baby food to give their crabs but I only have 5 crabs - I figured it would take like a year to make it through one jar and it would spoil. So I fill the bottom of these mini ice cube trays and freeze them then pop them out and put them all in a freezer safe ziplock bag

Re: Food preparation question
Great Idea! I have never tried baby food. Maybe one of these days I'll remember to try it. lolKermie16 wrote:I found these ice cube trays on sale at CVS last year and each area is about as big as a pointer finger tip. Re: Food preparation question
I like it because it's fairly easy to get (organic brand) and they usually have a good variety of different veggies and fruits and also helps that they are fairly cheap!
