Hi everyone, I'm pretty sick, got a bug that everyone in the family has. The bugs are still in there, I can't deal with them. So I dumped the rest of my small bag of worm castings, leaf litter and seeds that sprout into the tank. Usually I add a small amount every week. Then I'm just putting a small shell with food in and throwing the food and shell away the next day. These bugs are bad. Within a minute of adding the castings I could officially see they are food mites. Tiny white bugs. No luck on finding a home thru hca adoption thread yet. Hesitating to put them on Craig's list cuz I won't know how knowledgeable a new owner would be. I'm stressed out over these bugs. Still have the 5g set up to put them in if need be but Athena went back down sui that leaves just Yeti up.

I don't suppose you'd be okay with putting ladybug beetles in there? They'd hunt small mites and things. :?

Sorry to hear you are all not feeling well. I would not put lady bugs in your tat. Food mites are normal. I'm sorry you are stressed out about the bugs. That is probably not helping you get better. I would not put them on CL at all. Sometimes it takes time with the adoption thread. Everything happens for a reason. Good luck!

I might be able to foster them if I can convince my mom it's temporary. If not, I have someone who loves crabs just as much I do right down the road :) where do you live?

How soon do you want to get them to a new home? I live in Ohio, around 30 (?) minutes from Columbus. I don't think I could be a permanent owner, but I could definitely care for them until another experienced owner in the area appears and you approve of them.

Edit - I would be keeping them in their original crabitat after a good clean, it's up to you really.

I don't think its possible to move this tank without taking half the sub out, at least. And I can't do that or a deep clean as two of them have been buried under for a few weeks now. I would definitely foster them out but can't move the tank as is

If you'd mind separating them for a bit I could build a tote for the above ground ones, then what you'd like to do from there would be up to you. If you have any updates, let me know. I just want to help. :)

I highly recommend this adoption! :)

Edit: Not that my opinion means much, I just meat that I think Pinchers and Shells would take great care of them and that you would see pics of them on here! lol ;)

I would be willing to do this, Yeti and Athena have grown close, they sleep together every day in one piece of cholla or the other. They are the two that are up. I won't be going back to Ohio until the third weekend of Feb though. I have learned that if I keep the led light on when I'm in my room the mites hide. But if I turn it to night mode they come out. I'm ordering sine isopods this coming week to help knock down the amount of mites. I just got all this great food, 60 bags, and hate that I have to throw it out every day. Quickly running out of feeder shells. Anyhow, if you are still willing when that weekend comes up, I would greatly appreciate it

Sure thing! I don't have any plans so I should be able to. In the meantime I'll start setting up the tote.

Wonderful!! Sounds like the plans for a smooth adoption is underway from one crabber to another And I' m so selfish because I'm glad we will still be able to follow the crabbies and see how they grow Kieagcarm, I really hope you remain a part of this forum even after ur crab babies are all adopted! U have been such a great support to so many new and current crabbers!
