Wish I could upload video I CANNOT believe they are actually using it out and switching out (taking turns). It has to be the crazy weather!

You hang the silent spinner upside down. Unless the wheel is stuck a crab shouldn't be able to climb it. I try to hang mine so that it isn't by anything they can get onto other than the rock to step into it in. I have had multiple crabs climb the inside while one walks due to craft mesh, but not using this the comfort wheel (which is this one pictured). Image
I was thinking the coated wire kind like this one, my crabs could easily get traction on the outside. Side note, I don't know if my crabs are heavy enough to spin it! Image The coated wire doesn't spin as freely as the plastic wheels. Image

I personally don't like that one because if a crab climbs it one while another crab is turning the wheel there is a possibility of them loosing a leg or two. I'm not for them being placed on the sub either, but to each's own :)

I would pass on a mesh wheel for the reason @GotButterflies cited: a crab could easily be harmed as they try to walk. Their leg tips could pass through the mesh, entrapping the crab who would then struggle to free himself and potentially tearing off part of a leg. The solid color Comfort Wheels are very good options: the track is wide and is ridged so there's no need to add craft mesh for gripping. I have a leftover Comfort Wheel that my hamster outgrew and am in the planning stages of how to rearrange things in the 29g to be able to add the wheel without giving up any of the current features the guys like.

Imo the modified wheels (which are the silent spinners) turn the easiest. Next would come the comfort spinners, which do not need to be modified.
