How does one dispose of marine saltwater if you don't live near the beach? I have a septic tank, so over time all the salt will build up and mess up the septic tank, I expect. Also, the saltwater will pit my sink, and mess up any metallic pipes/fittings. Most of my plumbing is PVC, but there's still some metallic fittings and the sink/drain itself to worry about. If I try and pour it outside, it kills the grass. If I pour it in the street, it gets washed back into the yard and kills the grass. Plus I don't think that's so great for the asphalt, long term. What do you guys do with your old marine saltwater? I use Instant Ocean and mix according to package instructions. I've been trying to dilute it while pouring it down the drain in the kitchen sink, but I don't think that's the right answer, especially since the crabs can live 10-20+ years.
I'm flummoxed. Any advice you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!

I guess I'll have to try evaporation . We get a lot of mosquitoes here and they breed in standing water. Maybe the salt content will kill any larvae and I won't end up growing mosquitoes? One can hope. . Thanks for your input!aussieJJDude wrote:Place water in shallow pan and let it evaporate, then add salt to common waste?

Re: How To Dispose of Marine Saltwater???
I pour mine in our gravel driveway or in a strictly mulch area next to two bushes. Can't pour it down the sink because my crabs like to swim and get a ton of substrate in it, so that and toothpaste caps killed the drain. The bushes don't seem to mind, and as long as get most of the substrate out of the bowl I can rinse the bowl itself in the sink.
