Underwater shell changes

Post by wolfnipplechips » Mon Jun 19, 2017 4:53 pm

Last night a shell fell into the 2 gallon salt water pool. Today I watched as one of my crabs was exploring in the pool, found the shell, and changed into it! All while under water! He has been in the pool for about an hour now, mostly just sitting at the bottom, antennas in the bubbles. I've never seen an underwater shell change until now! Wondering if anybody else with large pools has seen this? Crabbing for 8 years now, still seeing new things from these weirdos.

Just sucks my camera fell into a lake last summer. Would have loved to get pictures of it! Or video! Sold my video camera to help fund my move across state.

Wolf, thats awesome. Bunmer about the camera. But then again, it doesnt surprise me that they will change under water. If they find a shell, they have to have it! :D

How long did your crab end up staying under?

Was in there for about 3-4 hours! Never had a crab under for that long. But he was a rescue, so probably hadn't seen salt water since he was plucked from the wild. I think he dug down to molt now because I haven't seen him in a few days. Hope he makes it.
