I've heard that moss is great at maintaining humidity and that hermit crabs love climbing on them! Also, if I ever need to boost the humidity i just use a spray bottle and mist the habitat.

Hi!! I started with a 10 myself and a zoo med mat. It was crap. An Ultratherm under tank heater placed on the outer back side of the tank above all 6 inches of substrate. You can find one at reptilebasics.com and another that seems to be slipping my brain right now. Lol. Also using a good thermometer/hygrometer for keeping an eye on levels and temps and insulating the heater with tin foil and cardboard and things will help too. Oh and p.s. from my own experience and i wish someone mentioned it sooner, using a coconut fiber mat against that back wall will NOT help the cause. Its an insulator so on the inside, will keep the heat from getting in from the back. I wish you great luck!

I have an ultratherm from the bean farm that I have mounted on the outside back wall of the tank! keeps my tat at a steady 80-83* during the day. mine's a 20 gallon but they come in different sizes. :)

for humidity I think it depends on what kind of lid you have. I have a glass one and if anything I have trouble getting the humidity below 99%, lol. Screen lids might require some extra work to keep moisture in.

I do have a screen lid, cut a piece of plexiglass to go over it and taped it down. Humidity is 99% almost all the time.

U can use press n seal wrap or just tape a trash bag over half of the lid and a good size water dish with bubble stones hooked up to a small aquarium pump works wonders for humidity.

I feel the best thing that works for me is reducing air flow. I have a vinyl sheet I cut into the size of the screen. Works really well - lightweight and doesn't move.
We use it at home as a "tablecloth" protector.
The 50 watt moon glo lamp also zaps humidity so I put it near the water supply.
