New threads
So one of my crebs finally changed out of the green monstrosity he came in but i was really surprised to see his choice. Out of the whole selection he picked the SINGLE non-turbo in the bunch. Pretty sure its a japanese land snail shell. I guess thats why its good to put a variety in there cause u never know what theyll go for!

Re: New threads
Ok so last night i saw that he had chamged i to one of my 1" opening turbos, was checjing out another big turbo, and then this morning was back in the land snail shell. Do you guys think thats a sign i need to get some bigger shells? I think the land snail shell is actually the biggest i have.
Re: New threads
Not necessarily! Some crabs like their shells small/snug while others like them huge/roomy. Then there's some that just like to change their clothes everyday. Each crab is different!! As long as you have 3-5 shells per crab (more is better) and they range in sizes - next size up, they should be okay.

Haha my Eugene had on this same shell a few days ago! He only wore it for 1 night. Next day he was back in a green turbo but I think the land snail shells are neat so it was cool to see! They mostly get eatin in my tank rather than worn lol.

Re: New threads
Thats the thing, i got these guys about 2 weeks ago so my shell selection is extremely limited ATM. They have been so shy/dug in, i really havent wanted to drag them out of hiding to measure them so im doing some guesswork on the sizing. Of course i might as well get some shells 1"+ openings bc even if they dont take them now (i think he will!) they will need them later anyways.daws409 wrote:Not necessarily! Also, just wanted to add a scientific matter of note: cuttlefish are objectively adorable. One study concluded that their cuteness ranks somewhere between that of a fluffy 5wk. old kitten, and a puppy chasing it's own tail (Leverton et al., 2017).

Haha what she's not saying though is that participants were recruited for this study solely from this forum so therefore there may be a population bias at work.
But seriously, I just got that big bag of Mexicans in today and a few have holes in them. Will hermit crabs take shells with holes?

Re: New threads
I learned from the forum that they don't take shells with holes... They also use their shells to store water (something like that lol). I'm sure someone else will chime in.ROSIEonFIRE wrote:Haha what she's not saying though is that participants were recruited for this study solely from this forum so therefore there may be a population bias at work.

Re: New threads
Yes. It depends on where the holes are. As long as the holes aren't over where there abdomens would be they'll be fine.ROSIEonFIRE wrote:Haha what she's not saying though is that participants were recruited for this study solely from this forum so therefore there may be a population bias at work.

Pheww! That's good to know because a significant number of the shells in that package have holes. Nice to know it might not have been a total waste of money.
