Anything good on Amazon?

Post by Crabby7Crabber » Sat Jan 18, 2020 6:33 pm

I got a $100 gift card for Christmas, and I was wondering if you all had any suggestions on some good products I could buy on there? My birthday's a few days away, and I think I'm getting an Etsy gift card, too. I noticed some of you, Like GotButterflies, have organic food stores on there that I'm definitely going to purchase some food from, as well as some other things. But anything on Amazon that you think is worth buying? (I'm going to order some of ChollaQueen's food on there tonight, as well as some moss and suction cups for a second level moss pit, some sea sponges, Zoomed calcium supplement, and some bowls for my ISO tank as well as my reg).
Thanks! :)

Also, I'm a little confused. I've read that Quikrete Sand is good for hermit crabs, but it also might contain something in it that's not good for them? I'm re-doing my tank in Feb, and I want to make sure I use the right sand. I'm using EE and Flukers Sand (I kNoW, but my mom bought it for me and I would feel so bad if I threw it out) right now, and just wanted to make sure I have right substrate next time.

Cholla Queen also has an Etsy store. Mary Akers sells various awesome ceramic dishes on Etsy under Earth, Water, Fire Studio. She also sells several food mixes too. Our guys lover her color mix and crabby granola.

If you follow the link in my signature it will bring up a ton of various vendors that sell crabby stuff.

As for Amazon we purchased thermostats, flukers tension rods, instant ocean, and temperature humidity gauges. The possibilities are endless. If you are unsure items are crab safe post links here and someone should be able to assist.

As for the Quikcrete sand. We use that for out tank. We use their Play Sand. It is around $5 a bag at Lowe's.

The Fluker's hermit crab beach sand is absolutely safe for them. It's only the reptile sands that can potentially be an issue. Calcium and aragonite sands aren't safe unless it's in small additive amounts.

Thank you for the recommendations on Etsy! I just found out a few days ago how much good food is on there! I'll be sure to order soon! And for the next time I get sand, I'll take a trip to Lowe's! :sign2:

Thank you so much for the clarification! I have a lot of anxiety, so I was worrying sick! I worry enough about my hermies as it is. I made the mistake of putting their 10g in my room, so whenever I go to lay down I hear them scrapping away and partying. Eventually, I just get up and watch them like a creep. But then they see me and stare back, raising their feelers in a challenge it seems. :confused2:

I’ll just list a few random things:

Kaytee silent spinner hamster wheel (super happy with the 6.5”)
Motion sensor cam
Clear window birdfeeder
Reptile hammock
Small fountain (kind of a hassle to clean the pump etc monthly but it’ll raise humidity a ton - anyone know of a safe easier solution to negate slime buildup?)

Craft mesh
One way mirror film (only works when there’s more light inside than outside of the tank - $10 will cover 3 sides of a 55 gallon)
Zipties
Command hooks
UTH
Flower paint palette (pretty optimal food dish imo)

Is your tank a 10 gallon? Your signature shows 4 crabs, 2 being ee's. Is that still the case? 10 gallon is too small for 4 crabs especially ee's. They don't do well being crowded and they need about 10-12" of substrate.

Im thinking i have two es. Its hard to tell, but looking at them more closely i think i might only have one. As for the substrate, my hermits are pretty tiny the biggest being only a small-med. I am for sure going to buy more substtrate today, ive been meaning to. I have a 10g, yes, but its very room, with running and climbing and hiding space

E's can get aggressive when crowded. And they love to dig, more than pp's. A 10 gallon is good for 2 small/medium crabs.

Yeah, that would make sense for my one. But i don't think he's much trouble, plus he doesn't dig much in the 3 weeks I've had him and the micros(my bigger pp was getting lonely, and I pity purchased him and the micro pp). The other day I found him and my bigger pp snifing each other. And today I found him sleeping with the little micros. The pp, if we're talking grumpy, is the culprit.

Start saving up for a tank upgrade, you will need to get a larger tank within 6 months.

Hermit crabs are sneaky creatures. They do a lot that we don't think they do when we aren't watching. We also have no way of truly knowing what they're thinking. So they might seem fine with certain things, but they are very tolerant animals, in the end.

I agree with the others suggesting to upgrade soon. Offering more space and deeper substrate will be very beneficial to them in the longrun. When it comes to hermit crabs, I don't think it's ever truly "good enough" for them; poor things are wild-caught, so going from a vast and endless amount of space in the wild to a small enclosure is a major step back for them. We just have to try to do what's best for them. :)
