Re: Ask questions about food not included on lists here!
Allium tend to have strong scents and flavors, but there’s no evidence that they’re toxic to crustaceans. Garlic, an allium, had been used as a feed supplement in marine crustaceans for ages.

Re: Ask questions about food not included on lists here!
Hello. I was wondering if the calcium carbonate and calcium gluconate are safe for crabs? I have some 'reptile munchies omnivore mix' and all the food ingredients are safe but IDK about the calcium...

Yes, they are. Calcium carbonate is what cuttlebones are made of.

The stevia is what I would be hesitant about.asiankanye wrote:I found a protein powder in my pantry, but I’m not sure if all the ingredients are safe. From what I saw, I think the ingredients are safe but I’m not for sure.

Even though honey is sweet they absolutely love it. It is a natural form of sugar.asiankanye wrote:So I was wondering two things, both of which I half know the answer to. The first thing is whether hermit crabs can have the spiky gumballs of sweetgum trees, as I have a lot of these in my backyard. I'm just a little paranoid that I'll run out of food and I won't be able to order food in time. I think the answer to this is no. The second question I had was if hermit crabs could have quaker's simply granola cereal mix. I feel like they can, but I just need to make sure. It's made from oats, raisins, honey, and almonds. I know that honey is sweet, so I'll feed this sparingly to the hermit crabs if I can feed it. These are the ones I'm talking about:

I grow organic stevia in my garden, and have given it to my crabs with no issues.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

What kinds of coral are safe? I'm thinking of buying some off of here:

but I don't know which ones are safe.

This is kind of a weird one but mealworm sheds?
I breed mealworms for my reptiles, and they shed their exoskeletons a lot as they grow. I throw them away constantly but I wondered if that would be a good calcium/chitin source for the hermits?
The mealworms are fed wheat bran (substrate), vegetable scraps, and plain calcium powder.

Many specimen corals are bleached or otherwise chemically treated to make them look nice. If you can’t confirm that they’re untreated you may wish to look elsewhere.asiankanye wrote:What kinds of coral are safe? I'm thinking of buying some off of here:

The sheds are fine and are a good source of chitin. You can also feed them the bedding and castings, as well.musicalhermies wrote:This is kind of a weird one but mealworm sheds?
