My understanding, as they burrow and walk around, it wesrs out their exo a bit while can dull it down. Of course, if the crab goes into water it cab also wash off a dust layer (looks like a small fine one) and can get him to look a little less dull. But of course, you don't want to bathe the crab and allow it to do it themselves.
