This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

How to heat Tank during winter

Post by azbywhitecalf » Mon Nov 16, 2020 9:05 pm

Hi,

I'm in the midst of upgrading my crabitat for my two herms, and I'm having trouble keeping the temperature at a good 80 during the night. During the day I have their lamp on and off (i shut it once it reach over 80 and let it cool to 75 before I turn it back on) to keep warm. However I can't leave the light one during the night because I'm scared of frying them and causing a fire.

I live in Canada and it's quite cold here right now, I have the heat up in the house bit it's not enough to keep the crabbies war.

I have a small Heat pad (about 4 inches long) but it's only 2watt and doesn't seem to keep the warmth in their tank :( sometimes I wrap the tank with towel to keep heat in. Otherwise than this problem, crabs are healthy and quite healthy! ( one remains submerged but has been digging holes all over, and sometimes briefly surfaces)

Any suggestions?

I am in Canada too. You are going to have to either pay the high shipping to get a good UTH from the US, or buy multiple of the ones we can get here.
The ones that have a sticky side can not be insulated over. But if you can get one of the good ones (Ultratherm or Bean Farm or there is another brand I can't remember the name) they don't have a sticky side and can be insulated over top.
If you dont' have any that can be insulated over top, you can insulate AROUND them, as well as insulate the top (or use a folded up blanket on the top).

Fleabag may be of some help to guide you through adding an UTH to your tank!
