Do you paint or use a background?
Do you paint or use a background?
As I'm prepping my 75g I'm wondering if any of you paint or use an aquarium type background on the back and/or sides of your tanks? Why or why not?
Re: Do you paint or use a background?
Neither, I don't want anything to interfere with my heat source. But that is just me.

I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.
Re: Do you paint or use a background?
I thought about that but then I see people putting a lot of stuff from egg crate to cork tiles, to various other interior climbing structures along the walls. A thin layer of spray paint or a thin aquarium background liner would be minimal compared to that stuff.

Any paint is very toxic. We use egg crate, crafting mesh, cholla, cork, tension rods, natural jute, hemp and coconut. Nothing with fumes.

Re: Do you paint or use a background?
I'm talking out painting the back outer wall. I do it on all of my fish aquariums, usually with just flat black. Once it dries and cures it would be inert and the crabs with have zero access to it since it's on the outside of the tank.

Re: Do you paint or use a background?
I think the concern has always been sandwiching the paint between the heater and glass. It should be okay, but with temps between 100 and 140 on the surface of the pad it could potentially release unintended VOCs. Not something fishkeepers have to be concerned about. Or even reptile keepers since they do belly heat.

Point well taken. I'll skip the paint.wodesorel wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 10:33 pmI think the concern has always been sandwiching the paint between the heater and glass.
