Can I use river sand for Crabitat?

This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

Can I use river sand for Crabitat?

Post by eldkzmffhs1 » Sat May 29, 2021 10:19 pm

hi.

Consider using river sand for crabitat.

Unfortunately, in Korea I can't buy commonly used playsand.

Instead, I can get washed river sand or sea sand.

This sand is sand that has been cleaned of impurities and gravel and washed with water.

This sand is used for play, gardening and construction purposes, but I don't know if this sand is safe for crabs.

Is it safe to use this sand?

If sand is used, how long can the substrate be used without deep clean?

I am waiting for a reply. Thank you. :)

If it’s been cleaned and is safe for children it is safe for crabs. Depending on how clean you like your tank a deep clean may be postponed indefinitely.

I don’t normally clean or replace my sand per say but I do sift and remix every few years to fluff and aerate.
